Finally done with my final year project presentation yesterday and thus it marked the end of my varsity life. No more schooling from now on! It’s a great relieve to know everything has finally come to a conclusion!! No more zombie nightmare haunting me nights after nights causing severe insomnia.

Straight after the presentation, I was glad that I had the night specially arranged for me by omy.sg. Again with their kindness, they had invited me over to an exclusive screening of “Robin Hood” staring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.

I am the fan of Robin Hood since young. Who doesn’t like a genuine heroic story who “rob from the wealthy and gives to the poor”? I mean it’s one of the best hero stories ever written on Earth. Being influenced by my mother (she likes Kevin Costner very very much!) I always had the kind of impression that this hero has got to be handsome.. Haha.. The previous 2 versions (Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves, 1991 and Robin Hood Men in Tight, 1993) featured 2 gorgeous guys in the movie.

1991

1993

And when I first heard that they are going to cast Russell Crowe in this new Robin Hood movie I was shocked!!

I thought I was going to be disappointed!!

But I was wrong. It turned out to be just a nice and one of the coolest movies in 2010! Seriously!

I’m totally buying this new Robin! To be honest I think no one has got to be more suitable than Russell Crowe. He plays the new Robin with much more in-depth personality. Great!

OK. Enough crap on the childhood memory. Let’s move into the review of the movie.

Overall I love this film. Though I’m not sure with the editing because for Singaporean version that I watched there were some abrupt cuts into other scenes which made me confused a little bit. But overall I love the story!

If you’re thinking that this movie is about Robin Hood saving his own village then you are wrong. This is more like “Robin Hood: The Begins”. It tells the story way before “Robin Hood has become Robin Hood”. Yea.. It’s about how history for this character and how he is shaped to be a heroic character in that way.

We see more actions and fighting scenes (though, as usual, some unacceptable scenes like having a sense of romance on a battlefield) but the story really touches me in deep on this Robin character.

I like the part where he stayed in Nottingham especially and to be frank that’s the essence of the whole movie.

Oh yea.. Did I mention that Cate Blanchett is wonderful in this movie? She plays an English woman perfectly and I love her character. Well, she’s much more “useful” in this movie compared to previous version where Marian was just like Princess Peach in Super Mario waiting to be saved. Haha…

And to relate this in the current situation in Malaysia as well… Haihz… Who is the Robin Hood to free us all??

Rise and rise again,

until lambs becomes lions.

You were warned!!!

Holding high expectation going in to watch the “most awaited movie of the year”, I’m gonna say what’s going through my mind.

Rating: 3/5

Worth a watch. Worth to spend to watch for the CGI and see how the world “might end” in 2012. Who knows? It may be the ONLY survival guide and may be handful for you to pick up some skills to save yourself for the Apocalypse that is going to come in 2 more years. (if you ever believe it~~)

How to save yourself?

spoiler here… highlight to see —> 1. be very rich or, 2. hijack a plane to fly yourself out from the huge tsunami/earthquake or 3. stay in Tibet until 2012 because the world is going to build the “Noah’s Ark” there to save the humanity

Overall, it’s ok ok la… So so la… There were times my jaws were open big and there were times I was bored… The dialog and storyline might get a little bit boring over times~~~ But the action is good! :P

It reminded me 2 things. First thing that came into my was a type of game that you played during summer camp. In a group each of you is given a role to play: actor, politician, worker, scientist, teacher, singer, engineer, housewife … Then they will tell you the world is going to end and there is only a spaceship enough for just to leave out 1 or 2 of you. Who should you save and to survive?

Yea… The answer is clear. No matter what occupation you are, the rich gets in first. :)

Then the 2nd thing that I was thinking when I watched 2012 is a classic PC game called “SIM CITY” where you can choose various disaster to destroy a city: volcano eruptions, tornado, tsunami, earthquake, fire etc… So alike!! Who knows.. Maybe Roland Emmerich is a fans just like me… :)

Should you go watch it? Hmm…

Maybe? Once again, who knows it might save you when it’s 2012…

I was expecting the movie when I first saw its trailer a month ago, together with its intriguing poster.

I might be a little bit biased here because I don’t like watching horror type of movie. Well, you can say I’m a coward or whatsoever but paying 10 bucks to scare the shit out of yourself wasn’t a smart thing, at least to me.

Well, unfortunately Pandorum fell into that category and to be honest with you I still couldn’t find the real motivation to watch the movie. Perhaps I was too stressed and I was looking a way to de-stress? (when actually my adrenaline push kept me stress all the time while watching this movie) Not a bad horror film I can say, as much as I can comment that this sci-fi actually does a better job at scaring people compared to those horror movies…

I don’t want to spoil much here. But if you would like to know more about the story I can give you some idea of the whole movie.

Imagine you are a crew in a spaceship that had just woke up from your long hibernating condition, well, like few hundred years? So you are like drunk and you don’t know what’s happening before this. All you know is that you are now naked (almost) and is now trapped in a room with another guy called Lt. Payton. So you two decide to find a route out and to find out what had happened to the ship.

And when the story moves on, you find xxxxxx and scary xxxxxx on the way and you know that the only thing to survive is to xxxxxxxx. So along the way you discover even more xxxxxxxx and xxxxxxx.

And will you survive? (pay the 10 bucks to find out…)

So to be honest the storyline is kinda predicted in a way. But you are paying more for the backbone of the sciences (the concept of the story which will be revealed at the end of the movie) as well as the effects that you get, the thrill and the excitement. (i guess.. though i hate those)

I’m sorry but I was expecting more from this movie. Perhaps I was in a bad mood while watching the movie.

Pandorum (2009) opens in Singapore on October 15.

My rating? Hmm…  Scale: 5 out of 7, worth checking out if you are still a sci-fi newbie or looking for some horror twist and adrenaline push.

To be honest with you, I am lazy to type and to bring it up here if that particular movie or food is not extremely good or suck and I won’t bother to mention it here at all. So whatever that I mention later is surely guaranteed in quality and worth at least a laugh or so! =P

==================================================

This post may contain mild and strong language that you might not be comfortable with. Get the fuck out of here if you couldn’t stand those languages.

==================================================

This movie is fucking amazing and brilliant!

Ray: After I killed him, I dropped the gun in the Thames, washed the residue off me hands in the bathroom of a Burger King, and walked home to await instructions. Shortly thereafter the instructions came through – “Get the fuck out of London, you dumb fucks. Get to Bruges.” I didn’t even know where Bruges fucking was.
[pause]
Ray: It’s in Belgium.

It is catchy. It is funny. Darkly English-humored and set in a beautiful city of Bruges. (you should pronounce it something like “Bruce”) But where the fuck is Bruges?

A little bit of geography lesson here…

It’s one of the historical sites in Europe and being called as “The Venice of The North” due to its famous canals similar to those in Venice. But what is so nice about this place or the movie?

Ken: Coming up?
Ray: What’s up there?
Ken: The view.
Ray: The view of what? The view of down here? I can see that down here.
Ken: Ray, you are about the worst tourist in the whole world.
Ray: Ken, I grew up in Dublin. I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn’t, so it doesn’t.

The view of down here…

It’s a story of 2 Irish hitman. After their assignment in England, they were being sent down to the little fcuking city of Bruges immediately and stay for further instructions. The story evolves as they stay fcuking long enough in the city to discover more about themselves and their purpose.

Ken (played by Brendan Gleeson) enjoyed the fcuking fruitful cultural and historical trip in the city of Bruges while Ray (played by Colin Farrell) was fcuking upset stuck in this place which what he called as “shithole”. Along their journey they met Chloe (Clémence Poésy), a production assistant that sells the fcuking drugs and an American dwarf actor adding special experience to their vacation.

The movie storyline is fcuking cleverly ploted with dark humorous elements inserted with the right amount at the right time. It is just enough to keep you watching from the beginning and you can’t stop wondering what would happen in the next minutes.

It’s not a mainstream movie where the fcuking explosions and the fcuking actions are over-exploited. To be honest, it’s one of those slow pace movies which bring you walk through the life of each characters in the story and exposed their real fcuking personality to you one at a time — emotional and heart-warming.

The acting is as fucking good as it can be. Everyone plays their part well and the focus of the light will shine on both Brendan and Colin in which their interactions are really the essence of the movie. Funny comments, emotional conversations… all shown by them nicely.

One more thing, is Colin fucking acting childish throughout the story?? Hahaha… Really. Both of them fcuking LIVE the characters in the movie!

Another thing worth to mention — I’m sure you are fucking sure for now that why are there so many “fucking” words around this article. Well after watching this movie I got a real bad influence from them. It is known that the movie has repeated the word “fuck” and its derivatives for 126 times in this 106-minute feature. That’s an average of 1.18 ‘fuck’ word mentioned for every minute.

Well.. that means this movie can’t get the fuck into the cinema nor DVD release in Malaysia. Fucking sad…

What’s more? The scenery attracted me so much that I am determined to give Europe a visit in years to come. It’s so SO so SO so beautiful!!! The sound and the setting and the overall atmosphere of the movie are just too detailed and nicely done. A very very good movie!!

The best last lines of the movie is something I cannot forget at all. All I can say is that the very ending of the movie is one of the essence in this film and it really really touched me.

Last Lines Spoiler Warning: If you insisted on reading, please highlight the lines after this…

Ray: There’s a Christmas tree somewhere in London with a bunch of presents underneath it that’ll never be opened. And I thought, if I survive all of this, I’d go to that house, apologize to the mother there, and accept whatever punishment she chose for me. Prison… death… didn’t matter. Because at least in prison and at least in death, you know, I wouldn’t be in fuckin’ Bruges. But then, like a flash, it came to me. And I realized, fuck man, maybe that’s what hell is: the entire rest of eternity spent in fuckin’ Bruges. And I really really hoped I wouldn’t die. I really really hoped I wouldn’t die.

I would give a fucking Truly Amazing 9 out of 10 for this movie!! Just one of the must-watch movie on the top.

First day of the Rat year…

Great day! Great start! I visited my grandparents this whole noon and then spent the evening with my family watching the latest movie from Stephen Chow – CJ7.

Overall it’s OK. Average with a bit disappointed storyline. Anyhow it’s Stephen Chow! Haha… I had great expectation but ended with not that great feeling. This is not his typical movie but I can’t admit that it is a bit too bad in the storyline. (SPOILER: How can he survived with no further explanation?!)

Haha… at least it’s a good laugh (sometimes quite lame) but nice movie time with family anyway.

So it’s DAY 1 !! See ya!
